Risk Control Design Manager

Worldline helps businesses of all shapes and sizes to accelerate their growth journey - quickly, simply, and securely. We are the innovators at the heart of the payments technology industry, shaping how the world pays and gets paid. Our technology powers the growth of millions of businesses across 5 continents. And just as we help our customers accelerate their business, we are committed to helping our people accelerate their careers. Together, we shape the evolution.

The opportunity

As a Control Design Manager within Risk Technology, you will play a key role in shaping how risk and regulatory requirements are operationalised and embedded into Worldline's customer lifecycle and risk management capabilities. Working at the intersection of Risk, Compliance, Operations, Product, and Technology, you will own the design of effective control frameworks, operating models, and business requirements that enable efficient risk-based decision-making and technology implementation.

The role sits within Control Design & Assurance and focuses on the Design capability, driving the future-state control framework for Customer Lifecycle Management and supporting the team's broader Operationalise, Design, and Assure mandate. The role is responsible for defining target operating models, control frameworks, risk drivers, data models, and automation strategies that enable effective, measurable, and scalable risk management capabilities.

Day-to-day responsibilities

  • Operationalise 2LOD policies, procedures, steering documents, and regulatory requirements into clear control objectives, business outcomes, success criteria, and implementation-ready requirements.
  • Lead stakeholder alignment across 2LOD (Financial Crime Compliance and Merchant Risk), Risk Operations, Digital and Risk Technology, driving agreement on requirements, assumptions, dependencies, priorities, and design decisions.
  • Own and maintain control frameworks and operating models, ensuring consistency, traceability, and alignment with policy intent and target business outcomes.
  • Own the design of customer lifecycle capabilities, including onboarding, ongoing review, offboarding, Customer Risk Rating (CRR), Customer Risk Assessment (CRA), and related control domains.
  • Define and govern risk drivers, reference data, control outcomes, and supporting data models required to enable risk-based decision-making.
  • Drive future-state control design and automation strategy, identifying opportunities to improve straight-through processing and operational efficiency through simplification, standardisation, and reusable control design patterns.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and design leadership for complex regulatory, risk, and operational control initiatives, acting as the design authority for assigned domains.
  • Govern traceability between policy intent, control design, implementation, and control outcomes, ensuring controls are measurable, auditable, and aligned with intended business and risk objectives.

Lead strategic control enhancement initiatives, identifying design gaps, regulatory changes, implementation risks, and optimisation opportunities to continuously improve the control environment.

Who are we looking for

We are looking for a senior control design leader who combines deep subject matter expertise in KYC, AML/CFT, and customer lifecycle management with the ability to design scalable and implementable risk controls. This role acts as the bridge between FCC policy intent, business requirements, and technology implementation, ensuring that regulatory obligations are operationalised into effective and measurable controls. As a senior member of the Control Design & Assurance team, you will own complex control domains, drive stakeholder alignment across multiple functions, and serve as a trusted deputy capable of leading the function in the absence of the team lead.

  • 6+ years of leadership experience within Risk, Compliance, Financial Crime, AML/KYC, Customer Lifecycle Management, or related control functions.
  • Deep SME knowledge of KYC, CDD, EDD, CRA, and AML TM frameworks.
  • Proven experience operationalising regulatory and policy requirements into control frameworks, operating models, and implementation-ready technical requirements.
  • Strong understanding of customer lifecycle processes, including onboarding, ongoing review, offboarding, risk assessments, and approval governance.
  • Demonstrated experience designing risk-based controls, approval frameworks, escalation models, and customer risk assessment methodologies.
  • Ability to define and govern control data models, risk drivers, reference data, decision logic, and control outcomes.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience working across Compliance, Risk, Product, Operations, and Technology organisations.
  • Experience driving automation, straight-through processing, workflow optimisation, and control efficiency initiatives.
  • Proven ability to lead complex cross-functional change initiatives, influence senior stakeholders, and drive strategic design decisions.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and documentation skills, with the ability to translate complex regulatory concepts into practical business solutions.
