Worldline North America is looking for a Sr. Staff and Tax Accountant that will join the finance team based in our North American office in Victoria, BC.
Compensation Range
- CAD: $65,000 - $85,000 in salary
The opportunity
As a team player who is used to taking on responsibility and an active role in improvement and efficiency projects, you will report to the Accounting Manager as an integral member of the finance team. You will be responsible for managing and executing US and Canadian tax strategies, ensuring compliance with all relevant tax laws, and providing expert guidance to clients. This role requires in-depth knowledge of federal, state, provincial, and local tax regulations in both countries, along with strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Prepare and submit documents to external accounting partners for federal, state, and provincial income tax returns for both Canadian and US entities.
- Provide tax planning and advisory services for cross-border transactions, including tax implications and optimal structuring.
- Ensure compliance with relevant tax laws and regulations in the USA and Canada.
- Stay updated on changes in tax legislation and advise clients and internal teams accordingly.
- Assist in audits and liaise with tax authorities such as IRS, CRA, and state/provincial tax agencies.
- Conduct research on complex tax issues related to cross-border taxation and provide actionable insights.
- Collaborate with accounting and legal teams to deliver integrated client solutions.
- Mentor junior staff and contribute to knowledge sharing within the team.
- Preparing monthly account reconciliations
- Calculation and preparation of monthly GST/HST/PST remittances
- Preparation of US state sales tax remittances
- Liaising with management & colleagues, including our Centre of Excellence
- Assisting in month-end and year-end audit
- Other activities as they come up!
Who you are:
Do you know how to hustle and switch gears at the drop of a hat? We need someone who is ready to hit the ground running, more specifically someone with:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, or a related field; CPA, CA, or equivalent designation preferred.
- Minimum of 4+ years of experience in US and Canadian tax compliance and planning.
- Proficiency working with accounting software (SAP) and Microsoft Office suite.
- Proven expertise in navigating US (IRS, state) and Canadian (CRA, provincial) tax laws.
- Strong understanding of cross-border taxation, including treaties, transfer pricing and international tax issues.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills,
- Advanced Excel skills, comfortable with data analysis
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize workload effectively.
