The Opportunity

Chapter Lead Testing 2 Chapter in Acquiring Division, Tribe Acceptance & Acquiring, in the E2E area.

A “chapter” refers to a group of professionals who share the same expertise or skill set, such as development, quality assurance, or operations. Chapters are part of the larger tribe structure, which is organized around a common goal or product. The chapter members are allocated to different squads within the tribe, where they contribute their expertise to the squad’s objectives while maintaining alignment with the chapter’s standards and practices.

The Chapter Lead is a leadership role responsible for guiding and setting the standard for their area of expertise within the tribe. They support continuous learning and lead by example, working alongside squad members to ensure quality and effective collaboration. The Chapter Lead also acts as a mentor, helping to develop skills and knowledge within the chapter, and is involved in activities such as defining quality standards, setting training paths, and exploring innovative ways of working. They play a crucial role in maintaining a strong learning culture and ensuring that the chapter’s work aligns with the tribe’s overall strategy and objectives.

In addition to managing and developing people within the chapter, a chapter lead also has a DevOps operational responsibility, supporting the tribe in maintaining product stability.

At Worldline, we believe in the importance of our chapter leads being closely connected to our business. Hence, we encourage them to dedicate some of their time to squad collaboration on the actual product.

Chapter leads engage in collaboration and mutual support with Scrum Masters, who facilitate the squads in developing and operating the products; Product Owners, who prioritize the product and manage stakeholders; and Area Leads & Tribe Leaders, who bear the ultimate responsibility and financial accountability for their respective domains.

The Squads are fully responsible for managing and controlling the day-to-day business.

In this particular case the Chapter Lead will be responsible for the Testing 2 chapter, a chapter that is composed of people that specifically focus on testing skills, and this specifically for the Limosa product area. This product area contains all squads that work on the various components of the Limosa stack, which is the main Acquiring Processing platform in the Netherlands. The focus for this Chapter lead will not only be the specific chapter, but also to interact with the other testing chapter within the E2E area in the tribe in order to move forward together on automation, industrialisation etc. and to set common standards with regards to quality assurance.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

My goals for the tribe organization are:

  • To lead and set the standards of a particular field of expertise in the tribe, such as Development, Quality assurance
  • Support and enable continuous learning in the chapter

When I'm successful this means:

  • Set training paths for juniors, intermediate, seniors and specialists
  • Identify and investigate potential innovative ways of working
  • Maintain overviews of skills and skill development
  • Maintain communities of practice
  • Include security in the standard practices

Things I try to avoid:

  • As a chapter lead, I strive to avoid micromanagement and being a single point of failure by making knowledge as easily available as possible
  • Additionally, I strive to maintain a balance in my involvement in the product delivery process. I aim to be involved enough to have a good understanding of the product’s needs.

Without me:

  • Without proper guidance, there is a risk of losing direction and focus.
  • Lack of guidance can hinder growth and development of career paths.
  • Adapting to new technologies may be challenging without a structured approach.
