The Opportunity

We're looking for a solution architect to join our Transport Retail UK team. You'll work within a small team of architects and business analysts, helping design technical solutions, working with teams across different locations, and making sure what we build actually solves the problems our business needs to tackle.

The role will predominantly focus on the UK rail industry. We provide systems for fares and timetabling, journey planning, ticket purchase and accounting, and after-sales. Our systems are undergoing modernisation, moving to a set of central APIs, architected to use cloud-native services. The successful candidate will help with this modernisation, looking to connect and integrate our various systems to create a flexible, scalable and cohesive set of services that can adapt to changing needs whilst remaining maintainable for our teams and valuable for our users.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Design and develop enterprise-level solutions for mobility and transport retail systems, with a specific focus on UK Rail retailing systems
• Collaborate with business analysts and fellow architects to translate business requirements into technical solutions
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to development teams on solution implementation
• Ensure solution designs align with Worldline's enterprise architecture principles, technical strategy and industry best practices
• Help improve how we work by identifying opportunities for better processes and creating new standard approaches across our solutions
• Contribute to DevOps initiatives and architectural standards within the Transport Retail area

Who Are We Looking For

We look for big thinkers who can drive positive change, bring a can-do attitude, and show a hunger to learn and grow. In practice this means:

• 5-10 years of experience in software development or technical design roles with exposure to enterprise-level systems
• Understanding of architectural principles and patterns, with an eagerness to develop deeper expertise in solution architecture
• Experience working with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions
• Knowledge of modern development practices and technologies, with interest in transport/retail domain systems
• Enjoys solving complex problems and finding practical solutions
• Strong communication skills and collaborative mindset for working within cross-functional teams and an ability to explain complex ideas clearly
• Practical experience with cloud platforms (AWS or Google Cloud, ideally) and understanding of cloud-native architecture principles for designing solutions in cloud environments. Experience with Terraform is useful but not essential
