The Core Foundation & Integration Tribe (CFI) implements and delivers the Issuing core applications, from Card Issuing lifecycle to Transactions clearing & settlement. With over 150 million cards and 1.16 billion monthly transactions, our platforms operate at the forefront of capacity and performance.

 

As a Database Engineer, you will integrate into a diverse, agile, and collaborative cross-cultural team consisting of business analysts, tech leads, developers, and testers. You will play a pivotal role by managing, maintaining, and securing the databases used by our software applications. You ensure the availability, performance, and reliability of data systems to support the robustness, scalability and future readiness of our assets.  

 

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

 

  • Analyze and diagnose existing database performance bottlenecks and scalability challenges, implementing performance improvements such as indexing, query optimization, and schema refinement.
  • Monitor database health, availability, security, and overall performance, proactively addressing issues and ensuring high availability.
  • Develop, maintain, and automate scripts and tools for database maintenance, monitoring, and security management.
  • Document database architecture, configurations, and optimization strategies to ensure knowledge sharing and maintainability.
  • Collaborate with development and cross-functional teams to optimize queries, data models, and application integration during development cycles.
  • Define and enforce best practices for database design, security, and maintainability, including making informed technological choices aligned with business needs.
  • Promote team skills development through training, knowledge sharing, and technical mentorship.
  • Optimize database performance, security, and cloud cost efficiency for applications deployed across various legacy and cloud environments.

 

Who Are We Looking For

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, distributed systems, software engineering, or another equivalent field
  • Proven experience as a Senior Database Engineer, Database Administrator, or similar role, with a focus on performance tuning, optimization, security, high availability, and disaster recovery concepts
  • Deep expertise in relational databases such as SQL, Oracle, and PostgreSQL
  • Strong understanding of database architecture, indexing strategies, query optimization, and data modeling
  • Hands-on experience with performance monitoring and troubleshooting tools
  • Knowledge of additional technologies such as Kafka, Qlik, and optionally programming languages like Java and Python
  • Proven leadership skills in guiding engineering teams and influencing technical direction.
  • Ability to document complex systems clearly and comprehensively.
  • A team player who thrives in collaborative environments, fostering teamwork inside the department and across organizational boundaries.
  • Payment domain knowledge is a plus : Card issuing, clearing/settlement, schemes, …
  • Excellent written and spoken English (C1); French appreciated.
