The Opportunity : Group FCC Sanction Officer
We are seeking a Group FCC Sanctions Officer responsible for advising Group entities on Sanctions, Export Control matters. The role ensures compliance with EU, OFAC, UN Sanctions (primary focus) while maintaining knowledge of OFSI and any other local Sanctions frameworks, as well as broader export control regulations.
Balancing high-level operational execution with strategic coordination, the Officer provides Sanctions, and export controls expertise to all three lines of defense (1LOD, 2LOD, 3LOD) and supports broader financial crime compliance (FCC) functions
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Advisory Support: Act as a dedicated advisor on sanctions, and export controls for Group
- Provide expert guidance on sanctions compliance and ensure awareness of other sanctions export control regimes.
- Regulatory Monitoring & Impact Analysis: Track sanctions and export control regimes, regulatory changes, assess their impact, and ensure alignment with internal controls and business activities.
- Policy Implementation & Oversight: Develop, implement, and oversee sanctions and export control policies, ensuring consistent enforcement across the group.
- Sanctions Screening & Risk Management: Support name screening, transaction filtering, and trade restriction compliance while advising on potential sanctions breaches and risk mitigation strategies.
- Escalations & Regulatory Engagement: Manage sanctions-related escalations, provide subject-matter expertise on complex cases, and engage with regulators and supervisory bodies as needed.
- Training & Awareness: Lead sanctions training and workshops, ensuring business and compliance teams stay informed on regulatory expectations and enforcement risks.
- AML & Financial Crime Compliance Support: Ensure sanctions controls align with broader AML/CFT frameworks, supporting terrorist financing risk management and overall FCC objectives.
- Audit & Testing: Collaborate with internal and external auditors to assess the effectiveness of sanctions compliance controls, ensuring regulatory expectations are met.
- People management: Group Sanctions officer and coordination with local Sanctions officers within the FCC officers
Who Are We Looking For
- Expert knowledge of EU and International sanctions, export controls (primary focus), and AML/CTF with a strong understanding international sanctions frameworks.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in financial crime compliance, sanctions, or trade restrictions within the financial or payments industry.
- At least 5+ years of experience in a sanctions advisory or FCC officer role (e.g., Sanctions Compliance Officer, Sanctions Regulatory Advisor).
- Strong understanding of EU, and any other AML regulations and how they intersect with sanctions compliance and export controls.
- External engagement experience, including interaction with local authorities for reporting or international supervisory bodies.
- Knowledge of sanctions compliance technology (e.g., name screening, transaction filtering, trade finance controls).
- Recognized FCC certifications (e.g., ACAMS, ICA, or equivalent).
- Strong advisory and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-risk environment.
- English is mandatory. Any other language is an asset.
- Experience in a payment service provider, banking, payment schemes is an asset.
- Multi-cultural environmental people management experience is an asset
- Prior working experience in Group functions or in large institutions is an asset.
- The candidate must be located already in Belgium.
