This role will report to the Group Head of Tax.
Day-to-day responsibilities
As a Regional Head (m,w,d) of Tax, Central and Eastern Europe, which include main entities notably in Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Poland, you will be in charge of all the tax aspects related to this perimeter that can evolve depending on the activity. You will be the key contact and stakeholder of local accounting, controlling, legal and finances teams, as well as the main interlocutor for local tax authorities. You will also work closely with the group tax team in order to ensure proper implementation of group tax policy and strategy.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Manage tax aspects of subsidiaries mainly in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Poland (including country-specific tax structuring, transfer pricing compliance, limitation of interest deductibility, and local tax consolidation group) and compliance aspects, as CIT, VAT, local taxes returns and ensure compliance with local regulations.
- Support local finance teams for annual financial statements under IFRS and local accounting rules (German HGB, Austrian UGB, Swiss GAAP); ensure correct and optimal application of IFRS, translating IFRS and tax standards into practical processes used across administrations.
- Take ownership of tax processes at Group level for the Tax Cluster area and ensure coordination between local teams, Group Finance, and external advisors (including transfer pricing documentation, foreign tax credits, local incentives, and subsidies)
- Provide advice and support to group tax team, finance, legal and operational teams on tax matters including CIT, VAT, and country-specific taxes and compliance requirements. Identify issues and drive effective solutions
- Conduct tax monitoring across the Tax Cluster perimeter, build local tax manuals and guides that are user friendly and understandable to a larger audience; train local finance and tax teams when required
- Ensure management of tax audits and litigations as well as relationships with tax authorities in each jurisdiction: prepare, coordinate and validate responses (with support from external advisors if necessary).
- Anticipate and assess tax risks across the Tax cluster perimeter, considering local regulatory changes and multi-country implications and work closely with group tax team in this respect. Identify issues and drive effective solutions
- Support the group and local finance teams on reporting (budget/actuals/forecast), on the determination of tax results, current and deferred tax charges and VAT recovery ratio across all Tax Cluster entities, coordinate the tax reporting and tax package process with local stakeholders, automate and improve processes, and harmonize local submissions as appropriate.
- Monitor tax legislation and case law developments and ensure proactive adaptation.

Who are we looking for

- Minimum 12 years of experience within international direct taxation at Big4, international law firm or at a multinational organization; pursued graduation from university (Tax Law or Tax Economics).
- Professional proficiency of English and German is required
- Expert in Excel and good knowledge of reporting tool (SAP)
- You demonstrate expertise in international Group tax matters, leveraging your previous experience.
- You are diligent, independent, proactive, with strong analytical and synthesis abilities, and excellent written communication skills.
- You take initiative, bring forward strategic proposals, and have strong interpersonal capabilities.
- Knowledge of the payments, eCommerce or FinTech industry is a plus.
