Title: Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)
This is Worldline.
Worldline helps businesses of all shapes and sizes to accelerate their growth journey - quickly, simply, and securely. We are the innovators at the heart of the payments technology industry, shaping how the world pays and gets paid. Our technology powers the growth of millions of businesses across 5 continents. And just as we help our customers accelerate their business, we are committed to helping our people accelerate their careers. Together, we shape the evolution.
The Opportunity
You will be part of one of the value streams in Cards Acquiring Tribe under the MS Global Commerce department. This value stream consists of an Engineering Manager, Product Manager, and Software Engineers — all based in the same location. Your excellent communication skills and team-oriented attitude will be needed for the frequent calls with other value streams located in other Worldline offices, x-shore teams, and for collaborating with different partners. This means everyone from engineering, product, business and operations work closely together every day.
As an SDET, you will be the quality champion of the team — an engineer who combines strong software development skills with a deep testing mindset. You will not just verify that software works; you will actively try to break it, challenge assumptions, uncover edge cases, and ensure quality is built in from the very first line of code — not bolted on at the end.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- You and your value stream will be responsible for the full development lifecycle of product and tech roadmap projects and production incidents support.
- You will be working in an agile environment, using Scrum.
- You are expected to work with team OKRs, KPIs and exercise an agile mindset, with a focus on continuous improvement and short feedback loops.
- You will own quality end-to-end — from design and code review all the way through to deployment and production monitoring — with no handoffs to a separate QA team.
- You will design, build, and maintain automated test frameworks and test suites across all levels of the testing pyramid: unit tests, component tests, integration tests, and end-to-end tests.
- You will actively participate in code reviews, sprint planning, and architectural discussions, bringing a quality and risk perspective to every conversation.
- You will think adversarially: challenge happy-path assumptions, probe edge cases, simulate failure scenarios, and surface defects before they ever reach production.
- You will implement and own quality gates in the CI/CD pipeline, ensuring automated checks are part of every merge and every release.
- You will be building and deploying the applications using automated pipelines, so you are expected to have knowledge of Jenkins or any other CI/CD tool along with DevOps work experience.
Who Are We Looking For
We are looking for a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) — a fully hands-on engineer who treats quality as an engineering discipline, not a phase at the end of development. People who can drive positive change, step up and show what's next – people with passion, can-do attitude and a hunger to learn and grow:
- At least 3 years of relevant work experience of Agile testing in Scrum in complex environments.
- Strong software engineering skills — you can write, review, refactor, and debug code at the same standard expected of a software engineer.
- Strong experience working in a DevOps environment.
- A genuine testing mindset: you think in failure modes, edge cases, and adversarial scenarios — you actively look for what can go wrong, not just whether the happy path works.
- Proven experience applying the testing pyramid in practice: unit, component, integration, and end-to-end tests — understanding when and why to use each level.
- Strong hands-on experience in using at least one tool for:
- API Testing: XML/JSON, Postman, REST API
- Test Automation: Deep understanding of Test Framework Design
- Programming / scripting languages: Java (primary), SQL
- CI/CD: Jenkins, GitLab
- Non-Functional / Performance Testing: Security, Performance (Jmeter / Gatling / Locust)
- Test reporting and defect tracking: Jira & Confluence
- Hands-on experience of the testing lifecycle, testing pyramid spread across different test environments, functional & technical testing, performance testing, and regression testing.
- Strong knowledge of SQL and Databases (Oracle / SQL Developer).
- Strong knowledge of Linux and CLI.
- Experience in the financial industry and/or e-commerce business is an advantage.
- Google Cloud, Kubernetes, Docker, and Kafka knowledge is an advantage.
- ISTQB / T-MAP certification is an advantage, but is not a substitute for hands-on engineering and automation experience.
