The Opportunity

Join our Global Technology Operations (GTO) team as an MQ Specialist, where you'll play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and maintaining IBM MQ middleware solutions. You'll work in a modern CI/CD environment, ensuring reliable messaging, deployment automation, and operational excellence across our technology infrastructure.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

Design, install, configure, and maintain IBM MQ infrastructure across development, staging, and production environments

• Automate MQ provisioning, licensing, and maintenance using Puppet and Terraform

• Implement and manage MQ channels, queues, topics, lifecycles, and security protocols

• Integrate IBM MQ with CI/CD pipelines to ensure seamless deployment processes

• Troubleshoot performance, reliability, and security issues to maintain optimal system performance

• Monitor MQ health and implement alerting, logging, and incident response processes

• Manage user permissions, auditing, and compliance requirements

• Collaborate with developers to ensure reliable message-based integrations and resilient deployments

Who Are We Looking For

We look for big thinkers. People who can drive positive change, step up and show what's next –people with passion, can-do attitude and a hunger to learn and grow. In practice this means:

• 5-9 years of strong practical experience with IBM MQ (installation, configuration, tuning, queue management, JMS/MQI)

• Proficiency in DevOps tooling including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and configuration management

• Hands-on experience with Puppet for automation and configuration management

• Familiarity with Python integrations, particularly pymqi

• Experience in Linux system administration, specifically RHEL environments

• Ability to author and maintain clear runbooks, automation scripts, and monitoring dashboards

• Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced DevOps environment

• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across diverse teams

• IBM MQ Advanced or equivalent certification (preferred)

• Experience with containerisation and orchestration tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift (preferred)

• Cloud experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP platforms (preferred)

• Scripting proficiency in Shell and Python (preferred)
