The Opportunity

The Business Continuity Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the Business Continuity Management (BCM) and Disaster Recovery (DR) strategies for the Australian region. This role involves ensuring that Worldline is prepared to respond to and recover from disruptions, particularly in systemic and mission critical payment processing operations. The Business Continuity Manager will work closely with various first line and second line departments and manage both internal and external incoming requests related to business continuity. This role will also involve the continuous monitoring and improvement of BCM performance through set of predefined Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

This is an excellent opportunity to join a high performing team which has the ability to shape the risk management practices. This role also provides opportunities to collaborate with the Second Line functions both locally in Australia, and globally with the Worldline Group and Merchant Services Second Line functions.

Worldline currently has offices in Melbourne and Sydney and while this role will be based in Melbourne some travel (less than 10%) will be required to the Sydney office and other offices as required. As Worldline grows within the APAC region this role may also be required to provide support to other markets within the APAC region.

 

Key Responsibilities

  1. Development of Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Plans:
    • Design, develop, and implement comprehensive BCM and DR plans tailored to the payment operations specific needs, including risk assessments, business impact analyses (BIA), and recovery strategies (based on predefined scenario’s).
    • Identify important or critical business functions and processes, particularly those related to payment processing, and establish recovery time objectives (RTO) and recovery point objectives (RPO).
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that technical infrastructure, such as network segregation, data backups, and redundancy, supports the BCM and DR plans.
  2. Resilience Risk Assessment and Business Impact Analysis:
    • Conduct regular resilience risk assessments to identify potential threats and vulnerabilities that could impact the payment operations, including cyber threats, natural disasters, and operational failures.
    • Perform Business Impact Analyses (BIA) to determine the potential consequences of disruptions on key business functions and establish priorities for recovery efforts.
  3. Coordination of Crisis Management and Incident Response:
    • Develop and maintain a crisis management framework that outlines the company’s response to various incident scenarios, including communication protocols, decision-making processes, and escalation procedures.
    • Lead the company’s incident response team during crises, ensuring that roles and responsibilities are clear, and that actions are taken promptly to mitigate impact and restore services.
    • Work closely with the incident response teams to ensure coordinated responses during major incidents, aligning BCM strategies with immediate response efforts.
  4. Regulatory compliance and reporting:
    • Ensure that all BCM and DR activities comply with industry regulations and standards, such as PCI DSS, data privacy, and other relevant Australian and international best practices.
    • Establish and monitor Business Continuity KPIs to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of BCM activities rollout.
    • Prepare and submit regular reports to senior management and regulatory bodies, demonstrating the company’s compliance with BCM and DR requirements.
    • Manage incoming requests from regulatory authorities, such as questionnaires on resilience readiness or other compliance-related inquiries, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
  5. Testing and validation of plans:
    • Schedule and conduct regular tests of BCM and DR plans, including tabletop exercises, simulations, and full-scale drills, to ensure their effectiveness.
    • Analyse the results of tests and exercises, identify gaps or areas for improvement, and update plans accordingly.
    • Ensure all employees are trained and familiar with BCM and DR procedures, particularly those in key roles.
  6. Vendor and Third-Party management:
    • Assess the business continuity capabilities of critical vendors and third-party service providers, particularly those involved in payment processing.
    • Ensure that vendors have adequate BCM and DR plans that align with Worldline’s standards and are regularly tested.
    • Integrate vendor recovery plans with the overall BCM strategy to ensure coordinated responses during disruptions.
  7. Stakeholder communication and training:
    • Act as the primary point of contact for BCM-related inquiries from internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, clients, and auditors.
    • Develop and deliver training programs to ensure that all employees understand their roles in the BCM and DR plans and are prepared to act in a crisis.

 

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Business Continuity role.
  • Experience in payments or technology driven organisation is essential.

 

Competencies & Knowledge

  • Excellent knowledge and awareness Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery best practices and frameworks (ISO 22301, ISO 27001, CPS 232, etc).
  • Understanding of payment systems, cybersecurity threats, and regulatory requirements affecting the payment industry is a plus.
  • Proven experience in developing, testing, and implementing BCM and DR plans.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to manage cross-functional teams and drive organizational change.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Excellent influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Good commercial awareness and industry knowledge.
  • Results driven and ability to work under pressure.
  • Advanced knowledge of Office products, including Powerpoint and Excel.
  • Experience with Risk Management tools (preferably RSA Archer and ReadiNow).
  • Multicultural and flexible mindset with the ability to multi-task and work in an international environment.

 

Education

  • Bachelors Degree (Technology, Risk Management, or related field).
  • Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), or similar are preferred.
