Day-to-Day Responsibilities


  • You ensure... that Incidents, Problems and Changes are updated and closed in a timely and efficient manner within the Atos/Worldline helpdesk systems (ServiceNOW) 
  •  You review ...  IBM best practice and new features related to MQ and/or IBM Integration Bus/ACE and share this with the team and suggest improvements and new features for consideration in future releases 
  • You build...  Strong relationships with support teams in the customer organisations in the UK rail industry through effective communication, avoiding jargon and maintaining a professional tone even when under pressure  
  • You develop...  Solutions to failures in the production service. Small enhancements to existing ACE message flows or deliver MQ/ACE environment changes within agreed timescales and to agreed quality standards and larger enhancements related to extension of ESB scope (e.g. setting up new MQ/ACE environments, extending MQ clusters or developing new ACE message flows) to cater for new services within agreed timescales  
  • You run …  using your technical expertise and strong documentation skills to produce impact assessments and estimates for new project work (e.g. new services, extensions to existing services, technology refreshes) 
  • You lead …  By supervising or mentoring junior staff as directed by the Middleware Team Leader 


Who Are We Looking For

  • You have profound (> 2 years) experience of a WebSphere Middleware support role with the post holder being recognized as a Subject Matter Expert in at least one of IBM MQ administration, IBM ACE administration or IBM ACE development.
  • You have experience of administering above WebSphere Middleware products in both Linux and Windows environments
  • You have Analytical ability in being able to resolve incidents and clearly document both the root cause and the steps taken to ameliorate the cause.
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering to tight deadlines under pressure without supervision. Particularly in a 24x7x365 support environment.
  • Experience of using and configuring performance management tools such as Dynatrace, IBM ITCAM or similar
  • Understanding of Java - i.e. interpreting stack trace to understand whether the cause is application or WebSphere related
  • You have experience of IIB/ACE Message Flow development and support using ESQL, DFDL and Java nodes
