The Opportunity

 

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Development Lead for our Transport Retail division to The successful candidate will be based in our Beeston, UK office and will report to the Senior Project Manager.   

 

 

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

 

  • Design, develop, and deploy applications using modern .NET) and C# best practices.
  • Lead technical implementation, ensuring deliverability, scalability, and code quality.
  • Align the engineering roadmap with business objectives and long-term product vision.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and stakeholders to translate requirements into actionable technical plans.
  • Act as the technical voice during planning and refinement sessions.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps to automate deployments and streamline development workflows.
  • Use Terraform for infrastructure as code (IaC), provisioning and managing cloud resources (AWS).
  • Conduct peer code reviews and offer constructive feedback to uphold quality standards and shared practices.
  • Mentor junior developers to foster an inclusive, collaborative, and growth-oriented engineering culture.
  • Engineer robust software for self-service kiosks, enabling seamless interaction with peripheral hardware (e.g. payment devices, scanners, printers), with built-in self-recovery mechanisms to handle operational anomalies without human intervention.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize application performance in production environments.
  • Champion test-driven development (TDD) and maintain a robust test automation strategy to ensure software reliability, scalability, and maintainability across environments.
  • Awareness of broader Worldline engineering initiatives

 

Who Are We Looking For

  • Strong experience designing and building scalable full-stack applications using modern .NET and Vue.js.
  • Experience building fault-tolerant software for kiosk-based systems, with the ability to anticipate and programmatically recover from unpredictable hardware or environmental edge cases.
  • Proficiency in writing clean, maintainable, and efficient code, embracing both engineering excellence and UX impact.
  • Passion for crafting innovative, user-centred solutions that solve meaningful problems.
  • Proven problem-solving skills with an ability to navigate complex systems and deliver elegant performance improvements.
  • You master the principles of DevOps, utilising tools like Azure DevOps for CI/CD, and Terraform for infrastructure as code to streamline development and deployment processes.
  • Skilled in software architecture for distributed systems, with cloud experience across AWS and GCP, leveraging Terraform and Azure DevOps to streamline delivery, while incorporating messaging patterns, telemetry/observability, and RESTful API design for robust, maintainable applications.
  • Commitment to engineering excellence through practices like TDD, continuous integration testing, and maintaining high test coverage across codebases.
